Cognitex Basics seems like a pretty strong supplement. While there aren’t that many ingredients in the formula, the two ingredients that are included are known to be effective and helpful in reducing the symptoms of age-related memory decline and difficulties in concentration. However, there is evidence that these ingredients may be useful for people of all ages, so even if you’re not ageing yet, Cognitex Basics may just provide you the mental clarity you’re looking for.
Manufacturer and website:
Cognitex Basics is manufactured by Life Extension, which is a company based out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the US, and has sold health supplements since 1980. Cognitex Basics seems like a pretty reputable company have their own store where they sell over 350 of their own nutritional products. The other products they sell include supplements for immune support, bone and joint health, and brain care.
The website is very well organized and laid out. It was easy to find out more about the ingredients and prices and especially how to contact Life Extension if we had any questions or concerns.
Something quite unique about Cognitex is its ingredients. Instead of trying to cram 20 plus ingredients in one capsule, Cognitex only contains two ingredients. We thought this was pretty cool, so we definitely wanted to figure out what was so special about these two magic ingredients.
There are 600 mg of the first ingredient in Cognitex, which is Alpha-Glyceryl Phosphoryl Choline, otherwise known as A-GPC. A-GPC is a choline compound that is vital for the structure and function of cell membranes and necessary for the transmission of acetycholine.
We know that’s a lot to take in, so let’s take it step by step. Cell membranes surround cells and are selectively permeable, meaning they block the entrance of certain molecules but allow others to enter. A-GPC facilitates the movement of these membranes and as a result may help cells communicate more quickly. Thus allowing you think more quickly and clearly.
Acetylcholine is neurotransmitter naturally present in all cells in our body. It is generally released in the body in order to send signals to other cells. In the brain however, acetylcholine is a neuromodulator, meaning it changes how certain parts of our brain accept and interpret information. It not only affects areas in our brain that are sensitive to acetylcholine, but it also ends up in our cerebrospinal fluid and sends signals to neurons in the brain for extended periods of time. Studies have shown that enhanced amounts of acetylcholine in the brain can improve cognitive function and reduce symptoms of age-related mental decline.
Cognitex also contains 100 mg of phosphatidylserine, which plays an important role in cellular communication. It has been approved in the US as a certified treatment of dementia and cognitive dysfunction in the elderly, although the new frontier of phosphatidylserine is in younger people. New research has shown that phosphatidylserine may provide relief in people of all ages.
One serving of Cognitex Basics is two softgels. In one bottle there are 60 softgels, meaning one bottle should last you about a month. You can purchase Cognitex Basics through Life Extension’s website. One bottle costs $25.65 (USD), although you can buy the bottles in bulk and receive a discount on each bottle.
We also found Cognitex sold on Amazon for $24.99 (USD) and on other websites such as iHerb, where one bottle costs $28.50 (USD). Overall, we thought the prices were pretty good.
As we mentioned above, Cognitex Basics contains only two ingredients, but they’re known to be powerful and effective, so you may not need anything else. Also, the price isn’t too bad. The company seems pretty legit, so overall we’re pretty impressed.
