Starr Walker Brain Retain Review: A Delicious But Super Expensive Brain Boosting Drink Formula

Our First Impressions

If you want to improve cognitive function and enjoy a nice chocolate drink at the same time, Starr Walker Brain Retain has got your back. Starr Walker Brain Retain is a supplement designed to both maintain brain health and support optimal brain function. Its formula is rich in amino acids, nutrients and vitamins that provide the brain with antioxidant protection. After looking through the official website we were happy to see that Starr Walker provides a very detailed document (pdf form) entirely dedicated to Brain Retain and its active ingredients. Will this power-based formula meet its promises and deliver exceptional results? Keep reading to see how our experiment with the product went…

Manufacturer

All Starr Walker supplements are manufactured by The 3rd Opinion, Inc. – a company that was found and established in 1998 by Dr. Mary Schrick. Dr. Schrick holds a Doctorate degree in Naturopathy and a PhD in Nutritional Sciences. The 3rd Opinion aims to be a supplement company that people can trust and to create products of the best quality. The 3rd Opinion manufacturers a great variety of products ranging from cardiovascular support to cognitive boosting formulations.

Ingredients

What makes Brain Retain different from other brain-boosting products is that it comes in powder rather than capsule form. How is this better? Well, mixing the powder with water and therefore consuming it as a drink makes it easier for the body to absorb all its vital nutrients. This may lead to faster results, which is great for those of us who want to experience the effects immediately.

A serving of Brain Retain contains quite a handful of ingredients including: Vitamin C 400 mg, Calcium 50 mg, Vitamin D3 1000 IU, Vitamin E 200 IU, Vitamin B1 50 mg, Vitamin B2 25 mg, Vitamin B3 200 mg, Vitamin B6 50 mg, Folate 800 mcg, Vitamin B12 1000 mcg, Phosphorous 50 mg, Magnesium 50 mg, N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine 300 mg, Phosphatidylserine 200 mg, Acetyl L-Carnitine 800 mg, Alpha Lipoic Acid 200 mg, Coenzyme Q10 200 mg, Broccoli Seed Extract 273 mg and DHA 50 mg.

Just based off a quick run-through of the formula, we noticed that only a few of the ingredients are actually nootropics or brain-boosting compounds. Brain Retain’s formula mostly consists of vitamins and nutrients, which although can bring many benefits to the body, are typically not as potent when it comes to improving mental function.

To give you a better idea of what the formula can achieve, we are going to outline the benefits of the some of Brain Retain’s highlight nootropics. Acetyl L-Carnitine is actually a compound that is often used in the world of fitness due to its ability of supporting fat burn. Additionally, however, ALCAR works on the brain by improving mental energy, boosting thinking skills and inducing focus. ALCAR is a compound that we always recommend because its so versatile and can work on pretty much anyone.

Brain Retain also contains 200 mg of Phosphatidylserine – a nootropic widely praised by neuroscientists for its potential to improve cell-to-cell communication and memory recall. Phosphatidylserine also supports the production of different neurotransmitters in the brain, leading to higher mental clarity, improved verbal fluency and better learning abilities. The best part about Phosphatidylserine is that it provides the brain with rich antioxidant protection, helping to hold back the progress towards age-induced mental decay.

An interesting ingredient that you don’t often see in other cognitive boosting supplements is Broccoli Seed Extract. What is this stuff exactly? Well, the vegetable broccoli contains a powerful nutrient sulforaphane glucosinolate, which is involved in the synthesis of antioxidants in the brain. Broccoli Seed Extract is basically an active, synthetic version of sulforaphane glucosinolate, so it provides the same neuroprotective benefits.

Results

Before we gave Starr Walker Brain Retain a try, we had very high hopes for both its taste and ability to deliver. Perhaps we shouldn’t have been so excited about the product because the results were not all that special. For the first 5 days, the only effect we noticed was reduced brain fog – and it’s arguable to say that this was a result from that strong morning coffee.

However, by the second week, we were very impressed by Brain Retain’s performance. After only 20-30 minutes of drinking the mix, our members felt a sort of rush of mental energy and focus. Not only did we manage to wave aside distractions, we also obtained better analysis and solving problems skills. We noticed these improvements after working at the office, but we decided to test these results further. Some members opened up their go-to brain training phone app Lumosity and played a few of the games. To their surprise, the results showed a slight but noticeable improvement in the “Train of Thought” section (which tests your attention abilities).

Other Reviews

“Starr Walker Brain Retain is one of the many nootropics available on the nutritional supplement market. Its particularity is that it comes in a flavored powdered form that makes it a more pleasant alternative to common dietary supplements sold as capsules or tablets harder to ingest. The great disadvantage of the formula is the monthly price. This is one of the most expensive products of its type but this high price is not supported by any scientific data or by consumers.” – Expert Review on BrainReference.com.

“Overall, Brain Retain is a good formula, but we still believe it could have been a lot better. It already had a foot up against brain pills due to the milligrams you can put in two scoops vs. two capsules, but it failed to take advantage of this by stuffing a lot of filler into its formula. On top of that, the fact that it was priced so expensively – three times what most brain pills are priced at – is a little insulting.

Nevertheless, if you can afford it, it’s a great option by Starrwalker, especially if you like Vanilla or Chocolate. Then again, you might be better off getting a few different brain pills, a multivitamin, and a few gallons of milk… after all of that, you’ll still have some change to spare.” – Expert Review on TopCognitiveEnhancers.com.

Cost

To order a tub of Starr Walker Brain Retain, you can visit the company’s official website. A 15-day (half a month) supply of this stuff costs $86.23. So if you’re using this product on a daily basis (which you should), then you’ll need to spend over $160 per month. Just to give a clear idea of whether or not this is a reasonable price, the average cost for a cognitive boosting supplement is $50-60 a month.

Summary

The most exciting aspect of Brain Retain is that it comes in powder form, allowing you to start the day with a sort of brain-boosting protein shake. This idea was appealing to most of us here at the office, although a few people pointed out the inconvenience that comes with having to scoop and mix stuff. So it all comes down to your personal preference – if your mornings are usually pretty busy and you don’t have time to measure out scoops of powder then it may be better to go with a traditional capsule-form supplement.

In terms of formula, Brain Retain does have some pretty good nootropics that are worthy of trying. However, the blend did not impress us to a point where we would leave our own preferred nootropic stacks. So is Starr Walker Brain Retain worth giving a shot? If you’re excited by the idea of a powder-mix formula and don’t mind having to fork out over $160/month then sure it is. But if you’re in the market looking for the most potent brain-boosting stack then know that you do have access to stronger formulations. Start by checking out our Editors’ #1 Choice, Lumonol.
